100% Pure Love: dance icon to perform at lakefront ‘Woodstock of House Music’

Daylong summer fest draws top talent, thousands of fans to celebrate Chicago roots of electronic dance music

April 22, 2013 (CHICAGO)—The Chosen Few™  DJs—a pioneering Chicago-based dance music collective—today announced that dance music superstar Crystal Waters will perform for the first time at their Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic on July 6, 2013 in Chicago’s Jackson Park. Starting with her 1991 breakthrough hit, “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)”, through this year’s Billboard chart-topper, “Oh Mama Hey” , Waters has helped spread electronic dance music globally with her distinctive voice, lyrics and sound.

Organized in 1990 as a small gathering of family and friends, the Chosen Few Picnic has grown into one of the world’s largest single-day house music festivals, attracting more than 30,000 fans from around the world to celebrate house music and culture with performances by internationally known DJs and music artists.

“While electronic dance music has become a global phenomenon, its roots are right here in Chicago, the birthplace of house music,” says Wayne Williams, founder of The Chosen Few DJs. “Our event celebrates that foundation by presenting dance music innovators who developed the sound, as well as today’s hottest DJs and artists, who are pushing the music forward. It’s the best of the dance music world, all in one of best places in the world—Chicago’s lakefront in the summertime.”

In addition to a performance by Waters, the picnic will feature sets by the Chosen Few DJs—Wayne Williams, Alan King, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Mike Dunn. Despite its size and growing popularity—fueled by word-of-mouth, on- and off-line—the event has kept the family reunion atmosphere that earned it the nickname, the “Woodstock of House Music”, with attendees pitching tents, setting out picnic spreads for friends and strangers alike, and dancing together on a giant grass “dance floor”. The picnic also serves as a backdrop for school, fraternal and other group reunions.
