The 23rd Annual Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic
Frequently Asked Questions
Date: Saturday, July 6, 2013
Time: 8 AM-8 PM (Park opens at 6 AM)
Venue: Jackson Park at 63rd Street and Hayes Drive, Chicago, Illinois
Q: How much does admission to the picnic cost?
A: Tickets are $20 all day and are available at the gate. Online sales have ended.
Q: Is there a charge for children?
A: Admission for children under the age of 12 is free.
Q: If I purchase VIP packages in advance, do I have to wait in line the day of the picnic?
A: Nope! There will be two special entry gates—one on the east side and one on the west side of the park—for VIP package ticket-holders; just show your tickets that were emailed to you at those gates, and you’ll be on your way.
Q. Why would I purchase individual event tickets online if I’m not getting a VIP package?
A: To save time waiting and use it for dancing instead. Advance ticket holders will be ushered around those standing in line to purchase tickets at the gate.
Q: Can I leave and re-enter the picnic?
A: At the direction of our public safety partners, there is no in/out of the gates. If you leave the picnic gates, you will need to pay the admission fee again to re-enter the event.
Q: So, how can I get my tent, grill and other gear inside, if there’s no in and out?
A: For those who need to bring in lots of gear to set up their picnic spreads, we recommend packing strategically, and/or bringing friends along with you so that you don’t have to make multiple trips to/from your vehicle.
We also will allow gear drop-off outside the Hayes Street gates for a limited time, 6-10 A.M. We recommend that you collect all of your gear at these drop-off points before entering the picnic. If necessary, after paying to enter the picnic, you will be allowed out and back in only to retrieve your remaining gear from the drop-off area just outside the gate.
(Please note: The above may change without notice, as the Chicago Police Department may close Hayes Drive at any time. No in and out for any reason will be permitted after 10:00 AM without paying a new admission fee.)
NOTE: The Chosen Few Picnic attracts more than an estimated 30,000 to a lakefront park that has extremely limited parking options. If at all possible, consider taking public transportation to the picnic. There are several bus lines that run near the park; check with the Chicago Transit Authority for details.
Q: Where can I park?
A: Great question! Those who purchased VIP parking spaces may park in one of the three on-site Chicago Park District lots that are immediately east (Hayes & Lake Shore Drive and the 63rd Beach lot) or west (Hayes & Cornell Drive) of the picnic site. To ensure that we can accommodate all VIP parkers, all vehicles must arrive in those lots no later than 11 AM. No in/out.
Q: I didn’t purchase VIP parking; where else is there to park?
A: A very limited number of first-come, first-served parking passes were made available at the South Side YMCA parking lot, 6330 South Stony Island Avenue, Chicago. Passes are sold out.
Q: I purchased VIP parking; how can I get my pass(es)?
A: You will receive an email message from Eventbrite the week of the event.
Q: Can I have my VIP tent space next to my friend’s space?
A: Only tent spaces that were purchased in the same order can be grouped together.
Q: If I don’t buy a VIP tent space, can I still put up a tent?
A: Of course! Those who do not purchase VIP tent space are free to set up in the areas behind the designated VIP spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q:Where can I put my tent?
A: If you have purchased a VIP tent space, your will be escorted to the area when you arrive at the park. If you have not purchased VIP tent space, you are welcome to set up in any unoccupied, non-marked area outside of the VIP tent spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q: How will I know where I can set up?
A: The VIP tent area will be clearly marked. All other tents and set-ups can do so in an unoccupied area outside of the VIP tent space area.
Q: What if I don’t bring a tent—where can I set up?
A: Anywhere you can find a space, outside of the designated VIP tent area, dance “floor” and other marked areas.
Q: I don’t want to bother with a big set-up this year; can I buy food at the event?
A: Yes. Authorized vendors will be on hand selling food and beverages.
Q: I want to sell my goods at the picnic, can I be a vendor and/or sell in my tent?
A: Only authorized vendors are permitted to sell merchandise/goods at the picnic. All other commercial activity will be shut down, and unauthorized vendors/sellers will be escorted off of picnic grounds. Vending spaces have sold out for this year’s event.
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: Absolutely. The Chosen Few Picnic loves the kids! Please note: Parents/guardians are responsible for their children at all times; there is no babysitting service or kids’ zone at the event.
